I am so very very secure in the knowledge that I am NOT adopted.
What does my crazy family do for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday yesterday? Why, we take the woman who *HATES* water out for a boat cruise on a tidal river on the day there is a tsunami warning.
Oh, but of course! What a totally sensible, appropriate thing to do!
She has been terrified of the water since swimming at Bondi Beach the day the sandbar collapsed. Funnily enough, many Aussies under the age of say, 60 or so do not even know this happened, but it was a pretty big deal. And this is but one of MANY reasons why Bondi Beach is NOT the best beach in Australia. In fact, most Sydney people (except those living at Bondi) will tell you its pretty crap as far as beaches go. I have no clue how it got to be such a phenomenon. But anyway, back to the boat, my nan and her fear of water.....
Actually, she loved it. Turns out that for over 20 years she has been driving past this old paddleboat and wanting to go on one of the cruises (its quite pretty really, travelling up through a mountain gorge in the Heritage-Listed Blue Mountains) and always saying "next time". So we were rather chuffed at being able to help her cross something off her list of things she wants to do.
It was wuite a lovely Sunday afternoon, slowly putting along the river, a lazy lunch, family, beautiful scenery, gorgeous weather....... and no tsumani was a definate bonus!
Being the closest resident to the cruise, the family all headed back to mine afterwards for coffee (and air conditioning!) And whilst I love have family around, and people filling my home, Its not so much fun when you run out of seating, and cups, and need to make coffee in rounds!
Let me just say, thank the lord for dishwashers!
